Mass Effect: From the Ashes
The volus are an associate race on the Citadel with their own embassy, but are also a client race of the turians. They hail from Irune, which possesses a high-pressure greenhouse atmosphere able to support an ammonia-based biochemistry. As a result, the volus must wear pressure suits and breathers when dealing with other species.
Because they are not physically adept compared to most species, volus mostly make their influence felt through trade and commerce, and they have a long history on the Citadel. However, they have never been invited to join the Council, which is a sore point for many volus individuals.
- LET’S MAKE A DEAL
- PRACTICAL PACIFIST
VOLUS (+2 REFRESH)
- AMMONIA BREATHER (+3)
Traditional nitrogen/oxygen air mixtures are poisonous to volus, and in the low pressure atmospheres tolerable to most species, their flesh will actually split open. Just coming in contact with a standard atmosphere without a pressure suit causes 1 stress, and every round the volus remains unprotected continues to inflict 1 additional stress. In addition they must maintain an Ammonia based atmosphere within their suits or they will suffocate.
- CONSUMMATE MERCHANTS (-1)
Volus are quite adept at trade and commerce. They receive a +2 to Trade rolls due to their nearly instinctive grasp of interstellar law and economic trends as well as their generally affable nature.
- LOW LIGHT VISION (–1)
Volus have eye structures that are better than average at seeing in dark conditions. They can ignore darkness aspects, except for aspects coming from the complete absence of light (such as Pitch Black).
- NO NATURAL ATTACK (+1)
Volus are not physically built for hand to hand combat. They may not raise their Fists skill above a rank of Fair (+2).
